Mint Velvet have got your winter wardrobe all wrapped up. A firm favourite of mine from the high street of Tunbridge Wells, Beaconfield, Guildford, Marlow and many more plus concessions within premium department stores such as John Lewis and House of Fraser. I’ve worked with Mint Velvet previously on catwalks for the Pantiles Fashion Festival and have always loved their collections.
Mint Velvet | Autumn/Winter 14
Their muted palette and soft greys, dusky pinks and effortless use of black always lead me to favour them for the Autumn/Winter season. This season is no different. They have an eclectic mix of cosy luxe pieces, cashmere knits and luscious layers. I swear by the denim from Mint Velvet and they know how to do relaxed glamour perfectly. Founders Liz, Lisa and Jane produce solid pieces each season that will carry you through and work fabulously together and as separates to build a capsule wardrobe for you to delve into each season.
I’m going to showcase my top five pieces from the AW14 lookbook and let Mint Velvet’s styling do the talking. This season is all about layering up; with modern muted pinks, silvery greys, soft textures and slouchy knits. But don’t forget a touch of spark with sequin embellishment; after all we need to brighten up those Autumnal days.
1. Brushed Coat £189 in Powder
I’ve been looking for a palest of pale pink coats for a while. It seems odd to choose such a light colour for winter but I’m done with the classic black mac. All rise the simple tailoring, the feminine look and sumptuous warmth with such soft fabric.
2. Zig Zag Textured Knit £79 in Mint
I love a chunky knit for this time of year. Suitable to layer up when the temperatures drop but stylish enough to work with a grey pencil skirt and heels for the office or skinny jeans and boots at the weekend. The Zig Zag texture gives a rock chic edge to this piece and the colour is one I am truly coveting at the moment.
3. Pinafore Dress £99 in Silver Grey
A homage to those playground days? I used to absolutely hate wearing a pinafore dress at school. Granted it wasn’t as soft a tone as this gorgeous silver grey. I think this dress has managed to alter my images of the standard pinafore and I think this will be an office wardrobe staple this season; team with a white shirt underneath; or go bold and pack a colour punch with fuchsia pink or cobalt blue to blend well with the silver grey tones.
4. Reina Longline Blouse £79 in Multi Print
I have to admit I am not really a shirt wearer; if anything, it will be a multi-print blouse in my office attire. Remember the Topshop Zebra print shirt; yes that is more my style. So this Reina multi print longline blouse is perfect. Subtle enough for the office whilst definitely not being boring. The neckline is very soft and feminine and I loved the tucked, rolled sleeve detail.
5. Sequin Patch Elbow Knit £69 in Silver Grey
Mint Velvet do loungewear very well; with their Hygge (pronounced Heu-gah) range. It’s all about cosiness and time with loved ones. Now I love lounging around the house but often this can feature a hoodie and Boden lounge-pants; this sequin patch elbow knit adds a touch of glamour the weekend “indoor” wardrobe. Simple yet beautiful.
