Meets Genevieve Ni Reamoinn

Recently I had the pleasure of working with Ideal World, profiling the Styled by Genevieve collection. A Spring 2023 dress collection launched by TV personality Genevieve Ni Reamoinn.

The exclusive shape-wear clothing range was designed with real women in mind and I wanted to take the opportunity to find out more about Genevieve, her fashion styling background and her inspiration.

Meets Genevieve Ni Reamoinn

So here we are with this week’s Meets…. Genevieve Ni Reamoinn.

Q. What encouraged you to get into this industry and what was your route into it?

I always loved the combination of fashion and the entertainment industry, even as a child I would copy my mum by putting on her shoes and wearing her scarves. That is definitely where my inspiration came from. I studied journalism and design and went on to work as a TV presenter and stylist. I also wrote lots of features about fashion, home and lifestyle.

Q. What is a typical working day for you?

Taking our Friday Fashion show as an example, myself and our fantastic fashion team will have prepped the show days in advance. We style the outfits, coordinate the colours and put a fashion story together. I will research fashion features and look at what designers are doing so I am able to help our viewers with the latest trends and seasonal colours.

I will then write the weekly fashion blog on our Ideal World website to let our viewers know what’s coming up. On the day of the show, we will go through the rail again to make any last minute changes. Then my producer, director and crew will check again for a final run through. If I am designing a new collection I will be also fitting dresses and collaborating with the team about new materials and styles. I will also be preparing our other shows such as beauty and fitness and I do love our kitchen shows.

Q. Where are you based, how much of an inspiration is your city and what are your favourite cities around the world?

I am based in Peterborough, I adore it! We have the most amazing architecture and historical buildings, all of this is inspirational in designing. I always like to create something different in my dresses, like the Cutabout dress with the angles structured to suit all shapes.
I also love London and of course Co.Cork. Los Angeles is amazing too for people watching and spotting the celebs.

Q. Have you seen the fashion industry change in the last few years? Have the options for different body shapes improved?

It has changed for the better in terms of separates, but I still think we need more choice for different sizes. When I look on the high street for dresses I cannot find the shape to suit my body. The styles are either too short, too tight or too young. That’s why I decided to design my dress range. So all women can look amazing. We deserve it!

Q. What is your favourite trend this season?

Longer length feminine dresses in strong colours. No more hiding those curves!

Q. Which favourite piece in your wardrobe makes you feel body confident when you put it on?

I had two dresses that made me feel really confident, but they were too expensive so I needed a dress that I could buy a few of. It’s awful when you try something on and it makes your confidence disappear so when I designed the Styled By range it came from that experience. So now, any of my Styled By dresses make me feel confident.

Q. What is next for you? What are your goals for 2024?

We are planning another collection for Autumn/Winter so already looking for inspiration. I definitely want to bring even more fashion to our Ideal World viewers.

Bonus Question – if you didn’t do the job you do now – what would be your dream job and where?

Oh, that’s a great question.. I am not just saying it but I love what I do. It is my dream job. But if I had to say, being Brad Pitt’s stylist would be nice!
